What are the different types of jockey pumps available?

Jockey pumps are used in fire protection systems to maintain pressure in the system when the main fire pump is not operating. There are several types of jockey pumps available, each with its own characteristics and applications:

1. **Vertical Inline Jockey Pump**: This type of pump is installed in-line with the piping system, typically vertically. It's compact and requires minimal space, making it suitable for installations where space is limited.

2. **Horizontal Split Case Jockey Pump**: These pumps have a horizontally split casing, allowing for easy access to internal components for maintenance. They are commonly used in larger fire protection systems.

3. **End Suction Jockey Pump**: This type of pump has a single suction impeller and is mounted horizontally. It's relatively easy to install and maintain and is suitable for smaller fire protection systems.

4. **Vertical Turbine Jockey Pump**: Vertical turbine jockey pumps are used in systems where a deep well or pit is present. They are designed to draw water from significant depths and are often used in large-scale fire protection systems.

5. **Submersible Jockey Pump**: Submersible pumps are designed to be fully submerged in the water source, typically a tank or reservoir. They are used in systems where space is limited or where aesthetics are a concern, as they are hidden from view.

6. **Multi-Stage Jockey Pump**: Multi-stage jockey pumps have multiple impellers arranged in series, allowing for higher pressure output compared to single-stage pumps. They are used in systems where high-pressure requirements exist.

7. **Close-Coupled Jockey Pump**: Close-coupled pumps have the motor and pump shafts directly connected, resulting in a compact design. They are easy to install and require minimal alignment.

8. **Diesel-Driven Jockey Pump**: Some jockey pumps are driven by diesel engines instead of electric motors. These pumps are typically used in systems where backup power sources are necessary or where electrical power may be unreliable.

Each type of jockey pump has its own advantages and is selected based on factors such as system requirements, space availability, and installation considerations.
